NORTHEAST KINGDOM CHAMBER BOARD VOTES TO KEEP WEB BENEFITS FREE TO MEMBERS
NORTHEAST KINGDOM - The Northeast Kingdom Chamber board of trustees voted at its recent November meeting not to charge its members for pictures, web and e-mail hyperlinks and enhanced business descriptions on its web site, www.nekchamber.com.
According to Chamber Director Darcie McCann, there is a growing trend among larger chambers nationwide and throughout Vermont to charge chamber members for such web services. McCann acknowledges that while this may be an attractive revenue stream, much more is gained by its members being successful and garnering more business.
“We have provided these services for free in the past, as a special benefit to our members,” said Chamber President Barbara Olden, from Union Bank. “We recognize the importance of this benefit and will continue to offer it at no charge to our members for as long as possible.”
McCann noted the decision to stay the course on chamber web benefits was one of the quickest votes the board made all year.
“Our board is comprised of business people, and they really empathize with the economic hardships being placed on companies,” said Chamber Vice President Wes Ward, from Wes Ward Auto Repair. “Our web site is one of our important advantages of membership, and, whenever and wherever possible, we will continue to offer services that add value to chamber membership.”
The NEK Chamber is a 430-member chamber based out of St. Johnsbury, with members located throughout the region. The chamber’s 23 trustees come from various avocations and regions throughout the Northeast Kingdom. The chamber’s web site includes visitor, regional and relocation information, as well as an extensive membership directory covering many services.
